The beginning
Qi, pronounced key, or chi, means breath of life in Chinese philosophy. Ormonde Jayne built Qi Intensivo as an intensified conversation between stillness and presence, exploring how quiet can carry weight. Released in 2015 under Geza Schön's hand, this variant pushes the original's delicate framework toward something with more backbone, the same structure, compressed and deepened until the silence between notes becomes the loudest thing in the room.
The composition pulls from opposite ends of the sensory spectrum to create its particular tension. Citrus blossom and neroli arrive cool and almost clinical, the smell of cold air, not warmth. Then mate, benzoin, and myrrh ground the drydown in something resinous and unhurried. The osmanthus absolute does the real work: a honeyed apricot note that feels simultaneously ancient and unexpected, threading through the florals like a memory you can't quite place. Hedione amplifies everything around it without adding weight, letting the fresia stay translucent across all three phases.
The evolution
