The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Onyrico, founded in Italy in 2015, creates edition-style fragrances that turn art, history and architecture into scented chapters, each crafted by local talent. Itineris draws its name from the ancient Roman itineraria, the stone-carved road maps that stitched tog ether the empire's far-flung cities. In 2016 Maurizio Cerizza set out to translate those pathways into scent, using bright mandarin orange and osmanthus as the first mile-markers, then guiding the wearer along through fragrant territory that feels both timeless and quietly modern.
The note selection reflects a philosophy of contrasts in harmony: bright citrus against powdery florals, warm woods against a cool synthetic silk accord. The osmanthus-mandarin pairing is deliberately chosen for its ability to feel both familiar and slightly unusual, rewarding the wearer who lingers on its nuances. The heliotrope in the heart bridges the gap between the luminous opening and the grounded base, ensuring the transition feels seamless rather than abrupt. On the skin, it reads as a refined, quiet experience rather than a bold proclamation, making it a fragrance that rewards patience and close attention.
The evolution
The journey begins at the bright, sun-drenched opening where mandarin orange leads and davana adds an herbal, wine-like complexity. Pink pepper introduces a gentle warmth, and osmanthus contributes a honeyed, apricot-like facet that softens the citrus bite. As the path curves into the heart, rose and peony emerge as the dominant landscape, their petals fanning out with an airy, translucent quality. Heliotrope adds a quiet creaminess that prevents the florals from feeling sharp, and jasmine threads through as a subtle backbone. The path then winds down into a warm drydown where sandalwood and musk create a soft, Intimate trail, and vanilla and amber provide a finish that feels like a gentle glow rather than a roar.
Cultural impact
Since its 2016 debut, Itineris has been praised for turning the concept of ancient Roman roads into a modern olfactory experience, earning a place among collectors who value narrative‑driven scents and often compare it to other Italian editions like Empireo and Enygma. The fragrance also sparked collaborations with contemporary artists, who used its scent as inspiration for installations exploring the interplay of ancient pathways and modern mobility, further cementing its cultural relevance beyond the perfume community.
