The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
In 2025, Onitsuka Tiger stepped into fragrance for the first time. The Japanese heritage label launched its debut collection, called Yellow Collection, in November 2025 with four numbered compositions. One is the opening act. To build it, the brand turned to Mark Buxton, the perfumer behind the formula. The brief centered on a theme the brand calls Wearing Quiet Radiance, a phrase that signals the scent's whole approach: presence without performance. The composition leans on contrasts the label has always understood through its design work, where quiet and sharp exist in the same line, and stillness carries its own kind of intensity.
Buxton's choice of raw materials tells you what kind of fragrance he was after. Tunisian rosemary and davana bring an herbal intensity that reads with conviction. Haitian vetiver, labdanum absolute, and guaiac wood build a base with warmth and grain. The jasmine sambac absolute and frankincense oil in the heart add resin and floral texture without sweetness.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are the loudest this fragrance gets. Italian green mandarin and lemon cut sharp, and peppermint runs underneath like a current, cool enough to wake you up but not cold enough to read as menthol. Within twenty minutes, the citrus starts receding and the herbal heart pushes through. Rosemary lifts first, then davana, a note that smells like licorice touched with dried herbs. The jasmine sambac absolute is present but restrained, more suggestion than bloom. Around the ninety-minute mark, the base starts assembling. Leather arrives first, dry and a little smoky, not suede. The guaiac wood and sandalwood settle in next, warm and slightly creamy. Ambroxan and Haitian vetiver carry the drydown, with labdanum absolute lending a resinous amber edge. The fragrance stays close to skin from hour three onward.
Cultural impact
The 2025 debut marked Onitsuka Tiger's first entry into fragrance, launching as a numbered collection built around the theme of Wearing Quiet Radiance. Available primarily through limited Onitsuka Tiger stores, the release extended the brand's established design language into a new category, treating scent as part of the same visual and material conversation the label has always conducted through its products. Rather than treating fragrance as an accessory or an afterthought, the brand approached it with the same discipline that defines its core work.
