The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Baunilha Real landed in 2019 from O Boticário's Nativa Spa line. Fanny Grau, the perfumer credited on the composition, built the fragrance around Madagascar vanilla, the variety sourced from the island off Africa's southeast coast, prized for its rich, creamy depth. The opening is loud with fruit: wild berries, plum, peach, and raspberry piled high, with just enough bergamot to keep things from collapsing into syrup. The name says it plainly: Real Vanilla. Not the whisper of vanilla, not the suggestion. The real thing, uncut, layered with caramel and crème brûlée at the heart, then jasmine, frangipani, and a base of amber, benzoin, bourbon vanilla, patchouli, sandalwood, coumarin, and myrrh to anchor everything.
Crème brûlée sits in the heart notes, not the base, which means the caramelized sugar lifts through the opening rather than waiting at the bottom. Wild berries, plum, raspberry, and peach crowd the top, stacked high and juicy. Then jasmine and frangipani add a tropical floral undertow, a humid sweetness that braids into the caramel before the base takes over. The base reads as amber, benzoin, bourbon vanilla, caramel, coumarin, myrrh, patchouli, and sandalwood, a full resinous lineup. The vanilla isn't hiding.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are almost aggressive in their sweetness. Wild berries and plum hit loud, peach softens the corners, and the bergamot keeps things from going cloying. By the thirty-minute mark the crème brûlée moves in and the whole thing caramelizes, frangipani adding a sticky, almost syrupy quality that some wearers love and others find too much. After two hours the fruit fades and the base starts its real work: Madagascar vanilla, benzoin, amber, coumarin, and myrrh settle into something warmer and less sugary. Patchouli and sandalwood keep it grounded, woody enough that the sweetness stops being girlish and starts being grown. As the hours pass, the caramel melts into the resins, the woods deepen, and what started as a loud fruit-vanilla statement softens into a low, creamy warmth that sits close to the skin without disappearing.
Cultural impact
Baunilha Real sits firmly in the gourmand territory where vanilla, caramel, and fruit lead the composition. It's a vanilla-forward, fruit-loaded fragrance that reads as confident in its sweetness, leaning into dessert-like territory without pulling back. The plum, raspberry, peach, and wild berries stack up loud from the first spray, then the crème brûlée takes over, and finally the vanilla grounds everything with amber, benzoin, and sandalwood underneath. For anyone who wants a fragrance that smells like pastry cream and ripe fruit at the same time, this one commits to the bit.
