The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Natvm Parfum launched Big Bang! as the centerpiece of their 2023 L'Infanzia collection, conceived as the olfactory counterpart to the universe's first explosion. The founders wanted to capture the raw, incandescent energy of a newborn star, translating that cosmic ignition into scent form. The brief demanded both brilliance and weight, a fragrance that could feel both celestial and immediate.
The note pyramid for Big Bang! reflects a philosophy of contrast and counterpoint, pairing bright, effervescent opening materials with deeply resinous heart notes and a drydown that leans into warmth and sweetness. Each layer was chosen to support the others, so davana and bergamot introduce the composition with clarity, while incense and violet provide density in the middle, and the drydown materials from tonka bean to amber create a finish that feels sustained and enveloping rather than fleeting.
The evolution
The opening detonates with davana's herbaceous spark, quickly joined by pine's sharp, forest-green character and bergamot's citrus brightness, creating an effervescent top layer that suggests heat and light. As this settles, the heart emerges as a smoky, resinous cloud where incense and violet take center stage, supported by geranium's green complexity and rose's subtle floral warmth, creating a heart that feels simultaneously ancient and Intimate. The drydown extends this narrative, blooming into a warm, honeyed territory where tonka bean, caramel and vanilla create an almost edible sweetness, grounded by cedarwood, vetiver and amyris, with benzoin and amber sealing the composition in a lingering, balsamic glow.
Cultural impact
Big Bang! emerged at a time when niche perfumery was embracing bold, unconventional accords, and its blend of davana, pine, and bergamot struck a chord with collectors seeking a fresh, forest‑inspired scent. The inclusion of incense and violet gave it an artistic edge that resonated with the 2023 cultural shift toward experiential fragrance narratives. Its release sparked discussions on the balance between sweet‑creamy bases and sharp green top notes, influencing subsequent launches that dared to juxtapose aromatic woods with gourmand warmth.
