The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Neon Amber arrived in 2021 as Perfumer Jérôme Di Marino built the composition around a tension, the mineral clarity of ambroxan against the resinous depth of labdanum, with tonka absolute pulling the sweetness just far enough to keep it wearable. The mineral note cuts through the warmth, preventing the composition from becoming heavy or overly sweet. Labdanum brings a sticky, balsamic quality that anchors the blend, while ambroxan adds a clean, almost oceanic sharpness that elevates the entire structure. Together they describe a fragrance that refuses to choose between presence and precision.
The tonka here does its part, but the mineral note running underneath keeps everything sharp. Cedar needles appear twice in the pyramid, bridging the heart and base, giving the composition a woody continuity. The warm, slightly hay-like quality of the tonka absolute wraps around the cedar, creating a creamy middle ground that feels intentional rather than accidental. This interplay between sweetness and woodiness gives the fragrance its distinctive character, with the mineral backbone ensuring the composition never loses its edge.
The evolution
The opening hits with pink pepper and mandarin orange, a quick, bright spark before the main event. That citrus-pepper burst announces arrival, then cedes to the heart where tonka absolute wraps around cedar needles in a creamy, slightly hay-like warmth. This is where most people fall in. The transition feels like stepping from a cold street into a warm room. The drydown shifts again as labdanum and ambroxan take over, the cedar resurfaces, and what lingers is resinous, mineral, close to the skin. The sillage remains present without being overwhelming, allowing the fragrance to unfold gradually over several hours.
Cultural impact
Neon Amber distinguishes itself through the mineral ambroxan backbone, a choice that gives the fragrance its distinctive character. The people who gravitate toward it tend to want warmth without softness, presence without volume. The mineral quality adds a sharp counterpoint to the amber warmth, creating something that feels modern and precise rather than traditional.
