The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Tangerine Squeeze was created by Patricia Choux and released in 2021 as part of Mix:Bar's debut collection. The name says everything, this is a fragrance built for the moment you peel a tangerine, that bright citrus burst that wakes you up. Mix:Bar's philosophy centers on layering, and Tangerine Squeeze was designed to play well with others: a woody complement to sweeter florals, or a citrus lift over deeper musks. Patricia Choux built this one as a gateway scent, the kind that makes you curious about what happens when you add something else.
Frangipani is the curveball here. It's tropical, creamy, the kind of note that usually needs something to anchor it. Choux paired it with honeysuckle and lily of the valley, florals that are clean rather than heavy, then grounded the whole thing in cedarwood, sandalwood, and vetiver. The result is a fragrance that doesn't choose between bright and warm. The citrus opens sharp, the florals soften in the middle, and the woods keep it from ever getting too sweet. It's the kind of balance that sounds simple but takes some doing.
The evolution
The first 10 minutes are the whole point. Pink grapefruit and clementine arrive together, not separately, but in a single bright wave that almost tingles. Then, as the citrus fades (and it does fade, within 30-60 minutes on most skin), the frangipani and honeysuckle move in. This is where Tangerine Squeeze becomes something else, the florals arrive soft, almost shy, blending with lily of the valley into a clean, creamy heart. The cedar and sandalwood arrive last, but they don't dominate. They linger quietly underneath, adding warmth without weight. On skin, the drydown reads as a gentle, skin-close warmth that stays for 3-4 hours after the top notes disappear. On clothes, it can last through an evening.
Cultural impact
Tangerine Squeeze arrived in 2021 as part of a broader cultural shift toward accessible, experimental fragrance. Mix:Bar's positioning around layering and self-expression resonated with consumers tired of finding one signature scent. Tangerine Squeeze, with its bright citrus opening and warm woody base, offered something different: a fragrance that could stand alone or layer with others. It's since been discontinued, which has only added to its appeal, the kind of scent people regret not stocking up on.
