The beginning
Jardin d'Ispahan draws its name from the gardens of Isfahan, the Persian city whose landscaped terraces and rose groves have long stood as symbols of cultivated beauty. Launched in 2022 as part of Maïssa Parfums' Édition Murano collection, the fragrance is an olfactory translation of that paradise garden idea, where the local rose meets earthy, grounded textures. The composition imagines the cool stone pathways of a Persian garden at dusk, the moment when day heat releases into evening air and the flowers begin to exhale their heavier, more resinous breath. Raspberry opens with a candied brightness, almost confectionery in its sweetness, before saffron and cardamom warm the fruit into something spiced and slow.
The composition's distinctive move is the raspberry note sitting at the top, a choice that separates this from the usual rose-oud template. Raspberry brings a jammy, almost candied sweetness that bridges into the warm spice of cardamom and pink pepper without losing its fruit. The Turkish rose in the heart is then given room to breathe against white oud, black pepper, and saffron, a pairing that brings out the floral's warmth and dimension. The patchouli here reads dark and slightly damp, almost root-like, grounding the floral heart before the base settles in.
The evolution
The opening arrives bright and deceptively simple, raspberry and cardamom trading sweetness for warmth in the first 15 minutes. Pink pepper adds a dry, almost peppery fizz at the edges, like static electricity on the skin. By the 30-minute mark, the Turkish rose begins to assert itself, but it doesn't arrive alone: saffron threads through it first, lending a leathery, slightly metallic richness, while white oud sits underneath like a shadow. The patchouli enters quietly, not loud and dirty but darker, more mineral, almost like the smell of rain on warm stone. Through the next two hours, the composition shifts toward its base. Ambroxan gives the skin a clean, slightly salty warmth, while cistus adds a resinous depth. The leather note reads as something softer, almost felt-like, more a texture than an obvious material reference.
