The beginning
Vanité draws its name and intent from the heritage of ancient Arabia, a land whose spice routes once shaped how the world understood luxury itself. Composed by Sarah Burri and released in 2024, the fragrance channels centuries of trade history into a modern spicy-woody composition. The note structure tells that story directly: cinnamon, clove, cardamom, and saffron at the center, anchored by labdanum, patchouli, cedarwood, vanilla, white musk, and amberwood. It opens with bergamot, mandarin, and lemon, a bright courtesy before the real conversation begins, then folds into an accord that feels architectural in its layering.
The spice accord here is dense and deliberate. Ceylon cinnamon, Guatemalan cardamom, Madagascan clove, pink pepper, saffron, and coriander stacked together forms a layered core that gives the fragrance its center of gravity. What makes Vanité's approach notable is the restraint of the citrus opening, a brief moment of clarity that makes the spice arrival feel measured and intentional.
