The Story
Why it exists.
Maison Crivelli builds each fragrance around a moment of sensory shock, a perception-rewiring encounter that defines the perfume's character. Founder Thibaud Crivelli encountered oud at a hidden party in a palm grove, the warm resinous depth threading through evening air and palm shadow. The contrast was the shock: resinous darkness meeting something unexpectedly sweet in the warm night air. Perfumer Jordi Fernandez translated this moment of contrast into Oud Cadenza, an extrait that confronts the wearer with sweetness and darkness in equal measure.

The Beginning
Maison Crivelli builds each fragrance around a moment of sensory shock, a perception-rewiring encounter that defines the perfume's character. Founder Thibaud Crivelli encountered oud at a hidden party in a palm grove, the warm resinous depth threading through evening air and palm shadow. The contrast was the shock: resinous darkness meeting something unexpectedly sweet in the warm night air. Perfumer Jordi Fernandez translated this moment of contrast into Oud Cadenza, an extrait that confronts the wearer with sweetness and darkness in equal measure.
Jordi Fernandez structured the heart notes around a deliberate paradox: oud and incense typically suggest darkness, but here they must contend with dates, caramel, and sugar cane that introduce an almost confectionery sweetness. Myrrh and davana were chosen specifically to temper the sweetness without destroying it, adding green complexity that makes the sweetness feel more natural and less artificial. The drydown deliberately introduces materials with overlapping warmth-leather, benzoin, vanilla, cacao-to create a sense of comfort without linearity. Mate was selected as the final counterpoint, providing bitter green depth that prevents the composition from becoming merely sweet and cozy.
The Evolution
The opening spices arrive with vivid intensity, saffron, cinnamon, cardamom, nutmeg, and ginger creating a warm, almost edible brightness that immediately captures attention. Pink pepper adds a clean, slightly citrus lift that prevents the opening from becoming heavy. As the spices settle, dates, caramel, and sugar cane take center stage, creating the sweet shock that defines the heart. Oud emerges here, threading resinous depth through the sweetness without overwhelming it. Myrrh and davana add complexity with green, slightly bitter nuances while incense and amberwood establish a smoky counterpoint that speaks to the darkness beneath the sweetness. The drydown blooms slowly, vanilla, cacao, and tonka bean softening the composition into a warm embrace. Leather and benzoin provide comforting warmth as patchouli, labdanum, and musk ground the fragrance firmly. Mate arrives unexpectedly in the far drydown, adding green bitterness and a tea-like quality that keeps the sweetness from becoming cloying.
Cultural Impact
Oud Cadenza occupies a specific corner of the niche market: the gourmand oud lover who wants richness without rawness. The date-and-cane-sugar accord offers a softer entry point than pure oud compositions, making it accessible to those curious about resinous materials without requiring them to commit to full animalic intensity. The fragrance delivers on that promise: bold presence, lingering depth, and a sweetness that earns its presence rather than hiding behind the darkness.
The House
France · Est. 2018
Thibaud Crivelli launched his house in 2018 built on a single concept: each fragrance begins with a sensory "shock" — an unexpected moment that rewired perception. Absinthe in a Moroccan souk. Iris in a Tokyo rain. The compositions translate these epiphanies into wearable scent, bridging conceptual niche perfumery with genuine elegance. A new house, but one with a clear creative thesis.

This fragrance sounds like late-night warmth, candlelight, dark wood, something sweet on the table. There's an immediacy in the opening (saffron crackling like spice on a grill) that gives way to something slower, creamier, more intimate. The oud sits in the low end like a bass note you feel more than hear. Wear it when the evening stretches past midnight and the room has emptied to just the people who stayed.
