The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Hera Reigns emerged from a single directive handed to perfumer Honorine Blanc: translate one of Liberty's most iconic archival prints into something you can wear. No pressure. Blanc approached it the way a sculptor approaches marble, not to reproduce the image, but to capture its energy. The result pairs jasmine's delicate structure with the evocative warmth of oud, letting pink pepper and gardenia build the narrative arc from bright opening to lingering finish.
The tension here is everything. Jasmine and gardenia are delicate, almost fragile materials, the kind that need handling. Blanc paired them with oud natureprint, woodleather, and frankincense in the base, materials with weight and intention. What emerges is a fragrance that refuses to choose between the beautiful and the powerful. Cypriol, in particular, grounds the composition with its smoky, earthy depth, a reminder that this fragrance came from something printed on fabric, but smells like it was carved from resin and leather.
The evolution
Pink pepper opens sharp and immediate, a bright crackle that lasts exactly long enough to get your attention. Thirty minutes in, jasmine takes over completely, pulling gardenia along into a white floral heart that reads as both delicate and commanding. The gardenia adds a waxy, almost indolic creaminess that keeps the jasmine from ever feeling precious. Then the base arrives. Cypriol, oud, and frankincense push through together, creating a smoky, resinous depth that shifts the fragrance from elegant to something with real teeth. Woodleather stays closest to the skin, a second-skin quality that makes the drydown feel intimate rather than loud. The drydown reveals its true character, smoky and woody, with just enough animalic warmth to feel almost feral. Nothing like the jasmine that opened it.
Cultural impact
Released in 2024 by Honorine Blanc, Hera Reigns is a fragrance with real character, not just a pleasant smell. The print-to-scent concept ties the fragrance to Liberty's broader creative identity, where visual art and scent intersect to create something more narrative than conventional luxury perfumes. The composition balances bright opening notes against a deeper, more assertive base, appealing to those who appreciate complexity and depth in their fragrance choices.
