The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
G'Like was created by Simone Schmelzer for Lanoe. Its name reads as a shorthand for gentlemanlike, a fitting register for a scent that pairs polished woods with vivid citrus. The idea is immediately legible in the materials: orange and grapefruit bring light, shiso adds a green aromatic snap, while flint and mineral notes create the impression of stone, cool air and structure. Apple Blossom softens the composition without losing its edge, and the base settles into oakmoss, cedarwood, agarwood and vetiver. It's a fragrance built around contrast, with the precision of a tailored jacket and the freshness of an open window. The opening is bright and clarifying, the middle notes cool and stony, and the drydown warm, woody and quietly textured.
The unusual part is the meeting point between fresh citrus and mineral texture. Grapefruit, orange and shiso make the opening feel lively and almost leafy, but flint and mineral notes prevent it from becoming a simple bright splash. The base brings a second character: oakmoss and vetiver add earth, cedarwood gives structure, and agarwood lends a darker grain beneath Apple Blossom. That balance makes the composition feel more deliberate than a casual aromatic, with each note pulling in a different direction.
The evolution
The first impression is citrus with a clean herbal edge, as grapefruit and orange brighten the air and shiso adds a leafy snap. Soon enough, the composition turns inward. Flint and mineral notes create a cool, stony impression, like sunlit stone after a change in weather, and the brightness begins to take on a more tailored character. As the fragrance settles, the base becomes clearer: oakmoss gives it a green, earthy floor, cedarwood brings dry structure, and vetiver adds a darker, grassy depth. Agarwood keeps a shadow of oud beneath the brighter materials, while Apple Blossom leaves a soft floral trace rather than a sweet finish. As the opening gives way, the scent holds its contrast, citrus still present but tempered by mineral coolness, with moss and wood drawing closer.
Cultural impact
G'Like approaches fragrance as an object of atmosphere and character, balancing vivid citrus against cool mineral notes and a grounded base of moss, vetiver, oud and cedar. Its gentlemanlike name gives the composition a clear register, and the tension between freshness and woody depth gives it a distinct place in a contemporary wardrobe. The result is fresh enough for warmer weather, yet anchored by the drier materials that define its character. The scent invites a closer reading of how each layer behaves, from the shiso snap and citrus brightness of the opening to the textured, quietly polished drydown.
The House
LanoeLanoe is a niche fragrance house known for a tightly edited catalogue built around numbered compositions, including No. 3, No. 4, No. 7 and No. 8. The house also introduced Mirus I in 2015 and released G'Like, Ibiza Love, Lovely and Black in its broader line. With a name drawn from Old French and a visual language shaped by ornate bottles, bold colour and gold detailing, Lanoe occupies an expressive place within niche perfumery. The brand's catalogue spans fresh citrus scents, rich orientals and woody formulas, but its identity remains consistent in an emphasis on theatrical presentation and concentrated fragrance.
The Creator
Simone SchmelzerSchmelzer’s signature vocabulary includes incense, resin, woods, musk, pink pepper and dark fruit. She favors effects with weight and texture: incense is dry, slightly dusty and forest-like, while musks carry a woody, softly spicy character.
