The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The name Lovefest Burning Cherry carries the number 48, and in 2025 Kayali reimagined that composition as an all-over body spray. Perfumer Philippine Courtière took the original Eau de Parfum and reshaped it into something lighter, more atmospheric, a continuous mist you spritz rather than press against pulse points. The brief reads like Kayali's house philosophy distilled: a gourmand-leaning composition engineered for layering, meant to mingle with whatever else lives on your vanity. Cherry, always cherry, but this time carried by a softer, more wearable architecture that trades density for diffusion. The fruit that once announced itself from across a room now hovers closer, a scented aura that moves with you.
What makes Burning Cherry 48 worth dissecting is the way its accord structure reveals itself slowly, rewarding attention over repeated wear. The opening stacks burning cherry against raspberry, a pairing that reads jammy and dense before the bergamot cuts in with sharp citrus light. That tension, sweet fruit pulling against something drier, sets up a heart where praline and heliotrope do the heavy lifting alongside jasmine sambac and Damask rose. It's a layered composition, the kind that reveals new seams every time you revisit it on skin.
The evolution
The first twenty minutes belong to the cherry, unmissable and immediate, with jammy raspberry curling around it like smoke around a glass. There's a fleeting brightness from the bergamot that gives the opening its lift, almost like sparkling water poured over dark fruit. The cherry never fully leaves, but around the forty-minute mark the praline starts pulling weight, and the whole composition shifts toward something warmer, nuttier, less fruit and more confection. Heliotrope adds a powdery softness through the heart, lending a creaminess that cushions the sweetness and keeps it from cloying. Jasmine sambac sits just behind the curtain, lending a heady floral body that most cherry fragrances tend to skip entirely, giving Burning Cherry 48 a dimensionality that pure fruit-and-sugar compositions rarely achieve.
Cultural impact
Wearing Kayali's body spray format means engaging directly with the act of layering as ritual practice. The composition borrows its architecture from the original Eau de Parfum but trades concentration for diffusion, making it a companion piece designed to coexist with other fragrances rather than dominate a wearer's scent wardrobe. Spraying it over a richer base scent allows the gourmand character to bloom upward through the heart and top notes of what's already on skin, while wearing it alone offers a lighter, more ambient reading of the same formula.
