The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Spicy Pumpkin & Marshmallow arrived in 2021, when Jimmy Bodin wanted to bottle one specific feeling: the anticipation of autumn. Not a single note or a passing season, but the whole energy of it, the pull toward warmth as the weather turns and you crave something cozy. The brief was simple: pumpkin as a base, but built around it with the kind of spices that make a space feel alive. Clove for depth. Cinnamon for heat. Nothing subtle, nothing apologetic. The marshmallow rounds everything out, the note that makes the composition feel inviting rather than overwhelming. It was meant to feel like a treat you actually want to come back to, a scent that captures the spirit of the season without holding back.
What makes this composition interesting is the note structure itself. Pumpkin appears twice, once at the top, once in the base, which means the whole fragrance circles back to itself. The opening is pumpkin and spice. The drydown is pumpkin again, but this time without the heat, softened by marshmallow and grounded by sandalwood. It's a loop that keeps the fragrance cohesive from first spray to final fade. The wheat in the heart is the quiet connector, lending a soft, almost grainy warmth that bridges the sweet and the spicy without announcing itself.
The evolution
The opening is immediate. Cinnamon and clove arrive together, assertive in their warmth, with pumpkin sitting underneath as a base note rather than a dominant feature. Within the first quarter hour, the sugar and tonka bean shift the composition toward something softer and rounder. The heart phase is where this fragrance earns its name, warm, sweet, and undeniably edible without ever crossing into synthetic territory. The wheat adds a grainy quality that keeps the sweetness from floating away, anchoring the middle registers in a way that feels grounded. As the fragrance develops, the sandalwood in the base emerges, adding a cooler, woodier dimension that balances the earlier spice. The marshmallow lingers as a soft, powdery sweetness that wraps around the base notes and remains present on skin long after the cinnamon and clove have settled into the background.
Cultural impact
Jousset Parfums built its reputation on ultra-gourmand compositions that feel almost edible. Spicy Pumpkin & Marshmallow is part of that tradition, bold, warm, and designed to capture the same anticipation you feel when something familiar and seasonal returns. The house creates fragrances that wear their intentions plainly, scents that invite rather than confuse. This one leans into warmth and sweetness without apology.
