The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Jousset Parfums launched Oh My Gourmand in 2025 as an exclusive for Scent Split. Brightness first. The kind that makes you lean in before anything else has even arrived. The fragrance opens with a tart citrus brightness that feels like the sharp note of a fruit compote just before it hits the tongue. There's an immediate sensory invitation, a pull that draws you closer. This is followed by warm, edible sweetness that builds slowly, creating a layered experience that moves from sharp to smooth, from bright to deeply comforting. The composition captures anticipation through contrasting sensations, first the crisp, then the soft, then the warm embrace of gourmand sweetness that settles into the skin.
The challenge was holding that brightness without letting the composition collapse into pure sugar. Red currant and grapefruit give the opening its tartness, a deliberate acidity that keeps the top notes honest rather than syrupy. The heart, though, belongs to the meringue and vanilla cream. Unabashedly sweet. The rice powder and orris root in the base are the unexpected move here: a powdery softness that keeps the sweetness from sitting too heavy, like the dust of sugar on a counter rather than the counter itself.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and tart. Red currant, grapefruit, orange, a triple citrus that doesn't so much whisper as arrive. The grapefruit especially carries its bitterness, but in a way that reads as clean rather than harsh. The heart is where this fragrance becomes itself. Meringue rises like a cloud, custard follows, and then the vanilla cream, with its characteristic depth and warmth. The sweetness begins its slow takeover, the triple citrus eventually giving way to something richer and more indulgent. The drydown softens into rice powder and orris root, the citrus long gone, the vanilla mellowing into something close to skin. The butter biscuit lingers quietly. It's the hour where wearing this feels like a decision you don't have to justify. The transition from bright citrus to creamy sweetness creates a narrative arc that feels both playful and sophisticated.
Cultural impact
Fragrances like Oh My Gourmand blur the line between perfume and comfort food, appealing to those who want their scent to feel like a mood rather than a statement. The edible notes create an immediate sensory connection, while the citrus brightness adds a contemporary edge. It's a fragrance that speaks to the growing desire for scents that feel personal and experiential, moving beyond traditional floral compositions. The composition invites you to experience sweetness on your own terms, without conforming to broader cultural movements or generational expectations.
