The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Jousset Parfums built its reputation on hyper-realistic edible compositions, and Sticky Popcorn represents their most literal interpretation yet. Perfumer Jimmy Bodin took on the challenge of capturing a specific food memory rather than a general concept. The brief was simple: make people smell this and think of buttered popcorn. No abstract interpretation, no elevated concept, just the real thing translated into liquid form. The house wanted to prove that gourmand perfumery could be as precise as any other category.
The note structure mirrors the anatomy of actual caramel corn: the salty fat of the butter and popcorn serves as the foundation, the caramel-vanilla combination builds the sweet middle, and the rice powder provides the finishing dust that clings to your fingers. Sea salt appears strategically to keep the sweetness from becoming one-dimensional. This is fragrance designed to smell like something you want to eat, made with the precision of a confectioner.
The evolution
The fragrance opens with a salted popcorn accord that hits immediately, partnered with butter note to create that unmistakable cinema aroma. Within minutes, caramel takes over, adding a sticky sweetness that rounds out the popcorn kernel aspect. Vanilla sugar enters as the caramel settles, transforming the experience from snack to confection. Rice powder appears in the drydown, introducing a soft, powdery texture that feels almost skin-like, while sea salt resurfaces to keep the composition balanced and prevent the sweetness from overwhelming the wearer.
Cultural impact
Sticky Popcorn by Jousset Parfums represents a bold entry into ultra-gourmand perfumery, a fragrance that refuses to soften its edible identity. The house built its reputation on compositions that lean into sweetness, saltiness, and the kind of richness typically found in dessert rather than perfume. Sticky Popcorn takes that philosophy and applies it to one of the most recognizable aromas in popular culture: the buttery, salty, slightly charred aroma of fresh popcorn. The fragrance doesn't apologize for being literal, it leans into it.
