The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Banan arrived in 2021 from Jouri Parfum, the UAE-based house shaped by perfumer Ali Abdulla Almarzooqi, who also composed the fragrance himself. The brand's catalogue draws on Arabic vocabulary for titles, giving the line a linguistic identity rooted in the region while speaking to an international niche audience. Banan itself carries a name that suggests something fruit-tinged, and the composition lives up to that suggestion with a clear leaning toward sweet, soft, and approachable territory. The juice opens on a fresh fruit accord, deepens through a creamy white floral heart, and settles into a warm sandalwood-and-vanilla base that feels more confectionery than austere.
What makes Banan interesting structurally is how the heart balances two fruits that rarely share the same stage. Plum and apple meet jasmine and lily of the valley, a pairing that could read either jammy or soapy, depending on the hand. The vanilla and sandalwood in the base support the floral, so the sweetness deepens without slipping into candy territory. The blackcurrant and pink pepper at the top do the opposite job, adding a cool, slightly tart edge that prevents the fruit from cloying.
The evolution
The opening is brisk, almost cordial: blackcurrant and pear hit with a green-candy snap, violet giving it a powdery cool, pink pepper threading a faint heat behind both. The first minutes are the bright, slightly fizzy part, a fruit bowl with a chill on it, where the blackcurrant's tartness mingles with pear's watery sweetness and violet's soft iris-like dusting. As that settles, jasmine arrives without warning, and the composition shifts from sparkling to creamy. The plum softens the floral instead of sharpening it, and the apple adds a fleshy roundness that makes the whole middle phase feel like a held breath. The jasmine here reads more creamy and lactonic than indolic, almost like a soft floral milk that cushions the fruit rather than competing with it.
Cultural impact
Banan wears most naturally in spring, where the bright fruit and cool floral opening find their easiest context, though its warm sandalwood-and-vanilla base makes shoulder seasons like early autumn and late winter equally comfortable. The fragrance's balance of freshness and warmth gives it a seasonal range that extends beyond a single window. The juicy opening of blackcurrant, pear, and violet feels right for brighter days, while the creamy base provides enough depth to carry it into cooler evenings.
