Why it exists.
The beginning
Boum Cherry arrived in 2006 from Jeanne Arthes, the French house founded in Grasse in 1978. The name itself, Boum, suggests an exclamation, a burst of energy rather than a whispered promise. Cherry and almond anchor this composition, together they make something memorable. The blackcurrant and mandarin keep it from being merely sweet, while freesia and honeysuckle provide the floral softness beneath the fruit. It's the kind of fruity-floral that earns its keep: playful without being naive, sweet without being sticky.
What makes Boum Cherry interesting is the almond note. Here it doesn't read as sharp or bitter, it leans lactonic, almost edible, closer to marzipan than to the nut itself. Combined with the cherry at the top, the result is a fruity sweetness that feels almost gourmand without crossing into cake territory. The sandalwood in the base is doing quiet work too: it keeps the drydown warm and close, preventing the whole thing from floating away. Tonka bean reinforces that warmth with a honeyed, vanillic quality that skin picks up hours later. This is a well-constructed fruity-floral, nothing revolutionary, but competent in a way that many of its peers aren't.
The evolution
The opening announces cherry and almond immediately. The mandarin adds citrus brightness without sharpening anything, and the blackcurrant brings a jammy tartness that prevents the sweetness from feeling one-dimensional. Within ten minutes, the florals arrive, freesia first, then honeysuckle softening the edges. The heart phase keeps the cherry present but rounds it, cushions it with peach and blackberry. By the mid-drydown, the fruity sweetness has deepened into something warmer: sandalwood emerging from below, white musk keeping everything smooth and close. The tonka bean shows up last, adding a nutty-honeyed quality that lingers on the skin for hours. Lasting power varies by skin chemistry, expect 4-6 hours on average, longer in cooler weather.
