The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Era was created by Dominique Preyssas in 2022. The name says it all, an era is a period you remember, a stretch of time that meant something. The brief was simple: translate momentum into scent. Citrus that moves fast, spices that heat up, woods that ground you when the speed finally stops. The opening sparkles with bright, zingy citrus that feels like acceleration, alive and kinetic. The spices arrive mid-wear, adding warmth and complexity that builds gradually. The dry woody base emerges to settle everything close to the skin, giving the fragrance weight and persistence. It's a scent that captures the feeling of forward motion, of a moment when things are happening and the world is opening up ahead.
What makes this interesting isn't any single note, it's the hand-off. That citrus opening doesn't just fade. It gets overtaken. Pineapple and mojito arrive mid-stream, cool and slightly sweet, taking the energy in a different direction before the warm spices fully establish themselves. Anise and cardamom don't announce themselves. They creep in under the pineapple, shifting the character from fresh to aromatic. Black pepper adds a quiet heat. The whole heart layer has that quality of something unfolding rather than arriving all at once. It's not revolutionary, but it's a more interesting trajectory than the typical fresh-citrus-done. And the woody base, cedar, sandalwood, patchouli, is built to last.
The evolution
The opening hits clean and bright. Bergamot, lemon, mandarin orange, three citruses doing what three citruses do best. That sparkle lasts maybe thirty minutes before the heart begins its slow takeover. Pineapple arrives first, a tropical sweetness that softens the citrus edges. Then mojito, cool, green, slightly bitter, and the warm spices creep in underneath. Anise and cardamom don't announce themselves. They settle in quietly, shifting the fragrance from fresh to aromatic. The black pepper adds a quiet heat. By the third hour, the citrus is gone. Cedar and patchouli have moved in. Sandalwood adds cream. Amber and musk hold everything close to the skin. The drydown isn't loud. It's present. It lasts, settling into a skin-close whisper that lingers without projecting.
Cultural impact
Era joined Jaguar's fragrance collection, continuing a tradition that began with the brand's first perfume. Jaguar has consistently translated its automotive design language into scent, and Era represents this approach applied to contemporary masculine fragrance culture. The fragrance arrived during a period when masculine scents emphasizing fresh citrus openings with warm spice and woody drydowns dominate the market. The scent reflects the brand's design philosophy, bringing the same attention to detail and quality that Jaguar applies to its vehicles.
