The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Incantesimo, Italian for 'magical', was conceived as a challenge. Lavender is one of perfumery's most recognizable materials, and recognition can become limitation. The house wanted to push lavender into territory that felt unexpected: not the fresh-laundered skin of a mainstream soapy accord, but something with more depth, more contrast, more intention. The 2020 release placed four distinct lavender varieties in conversation with each other, supported by an aromatic structure of rosemary, sage, and cypress. The result is a lavender composition that refuses to be pinned down as simply clean or simply warm, it occupies the space between.
What makes the structure interesting is the interplay between cool and warm aromatic elements. Bergamot and white lavender open bright and citrus-adjacent, while rosemary and true lavender provide the classic herbal lift. Coriander enters with a quiet spicy undertone that keeps the heart from being purely floral, and cypress grounds the mid-section with Mediterranean character. Geranium adds a green floral edge that enriches rather than sweetens. The drydown, amber, tonka bean, vanilla, is where the warmth arrives, softening everything into something close to the skin. The note pyramid isn't just a list of ingredients.
The evolution
The opening hits bright and citrusy, with bergamot leading and white lavender arriving almost immediately after. The first ten minutes feel herbal, rosemary cutting through the floral coolness. Then the coriander appears, a quiet spicy note that keeps things grounded. By the mid-section, the lavender layers have fully integrated. This is when the fragrance reveals its actual character: herbal, slightly spiced, unexpectedly creamy. Not sweet-creamy, but warm and soft. The transition to drydown takes roughly two hours, and it's a complete shift in register. The herbs fade. The lavender softens. What remains is a close, warm embrace of vanilla, tonka, and amber, powdery, intimate, and surprisingly persistent. Lasting through an evening isn't a problem. The drydown stays close, which suits the fragrance's nature: it's not announcing itself. It's waiting for someone to lean in.
Cultural impact
Since its 2020 launch, Incantesimo has found its audience among those who want lavender without theexpected. It's not competing with mainstream aromatic fragrances, it's operating in a different register entirely. The four-lavender structure creates genuine complexity, and the warm drydown gives it longevity and presence that lighter lavender compositions often lack. It sits comfortably between formal and informal, making it versatile without being generic.
