A house, in its own words
The story of Inverso Profumi begins with co‑founder Kristina Nazarevskaia, a photographer who grew up in Italy before relocating to New York. In 2023 she partnered with a small group of artisans to launch a fragrance house that would treat perfume as a visual medium. Early on the team released a series of core fragrances between 2019 and 2020, including Superfluo, Ladri di Fichi, Cimmerian, Incantesimo, Mink, Charlotte, Private, Stai Ferma and Whānui. These scents arrived before the formal incorporation of the brand, serving as a proof of concept for the hand‑crafted approach. By 2023 the collective formalized as Inverso Profumi, establishing a studio in Manhattan where each batch is mixed by hand. The brand gained visibility through a Drydown interview in early 2025, where Nazarevskaia discussed the challenges of building a niche house without traditional PR support. Throughout its brief history the house has remained focused on limited releases, avoiding mass‑market distribution and maintaining a direct‑to‑consumer model within the United States. The evolution from a photographer’s side project to a recognized independent perfume atelier illustrates a steady commitment to artistic integrity and material quality. Inverso Profumi frames perfume as a visual narrative. The house draws inspiration from contemporary art, architecture and photography, citing architects such as Massimiliano Fuksas as reference points for structural balance. Its creative vision rests on three pillars: material integrity, minimalist composition and tactile storytelling. The brand selects raw ingredients for their provenance and olfactory clarity, then strips away secondary accords to reveal a single, dominant idea. Rather than chasing trends, Inverso lets each fragrance act as a still photograph, capturing a moment or mood in scent form. The team values transparency, refusing to issue press kits and instead inviting collectors to engage directly with the product. This approach reflects a belief that perfume should be experienced personally, without the noise of mass‑media hype. By treating each launch as a curated exhibition, the house encourages wearers to contemplate the relationship between scent, memory and visual art.
