The beginning
La Petite Robe Noire Rose Noire arrived in 2023 as a limited chapter in Guerlain's iconic little black dress collection. Delphine Jelk composed this flanker with the rose at its center, but the surrounding accord carries a distinctly nocturnal weight that sets it apart. Blackberry, licorice, black tea, and leather circle the floral like accessories on a darker evening: the same silhouette, cut from richer cloth in mood if not in form. The bottle design, by Kuntzel + Deygas, translates this shift into glass and silhouette, its artful form echoing the collection's playful visual language while signaling something more grown.
What makes this composition interesting is how it balances fruit against structure without tipping into either extreme. Blackberry and licorice provide a dark, jammy sweetness that lifts the rose into unfamiliar territory, giving it depth without flattening the floral. Black tea and leather arrive to sharpen what would otherwise drift into pure dessert, anchoring the sweetness with something drier and more mineral. Tonka bean ties it all together with its almond-vanilla warmth, rounding off the sharp edges without smoothing them out entirely.

The licorice retreats gradually but never fully disappears, leaving a faint aniseed hum that persists. On skin the composition holds well through an evening, with the later hours dominated by tonka, leather, and a softened blackberry presence.
