The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Marie Salamagne conceived Trouble-Fête in 2020 for Givenchy's La Collection Particulière. Fig leaf provided the answer. Paired with roasted sesame, the combination pushes the fragrance away from simple elegance into something more complex, sweet, warm. Somalian frankincense grounds the whole structure, keeping the jasmine from being precious and the fig leaf from being too green. The interplay of these notes creates a fragrance that moves beyond straightforward floral or green interpretations, with the sesame adding unexpected warmth and the frankincense providing a steady, resinous anchor that allows the brighter top notes to shine without overwhelming the composition.
Fig leaf is the unusual choice here. The leaf gives something crisper, greener, more vegetal. That choice shapes everything that follows. When you pair it with Indian jasmine sambac absolute, you're bringing together two very different intensities: the sharp, natural green of a crushed leaf against the lush, almost overwhelming sweetness of a heady white flower. The roasted sesame is where it gets interesting.
The evolution
Fig leaf arrives first. Crisp. Green. The kind of natural smell that doesn't feel constructed. There's a slight bitterness underneath, like the stem was just cut. Within minutes, the sesame begins to unfold, not nutty exactly, but warm. Creamy. It softens the green without killing it. The jasmine sambac appears and brings its signature sweetness, but here it reads more creamy than heady. The drydown is the surprise. The lactonic quality deepens, the jasmine takes on a softer, warmer character, and the sesame note rounds into something almost edible. The frankincense provides a quiet, resinous base, not the star, but the foundation that keeps everything present for hours. The entire development feels fluid, with each layer gently revealing and then receding in turn.
Cultural impact
Trouble-Fête appeals to the wearer who wants fig in a different key, not fruity, not linear, but green-to-warm with an unexpected nutty-lactonic heart. Community reception centers on its natural-smelling quality and clean character, with particular praise for the roasted sesame note that adds creamy depth. The moderate sillage suits those who prefer intimacy over projection, making it a thoughtful choice for close encounters and everyday wear.
