The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
L'Interdit Edition Couture arrived in 2019 as a collector's bottle, a limited-edition reimagining of Givenchy's original L'Interdit from 2018. The perfumers Dominique Ropion, Anne Flipo, and Fanny Bal were tasked with translating that same spirit of forbidden elegance into something new for a new era. The original L'Interdit was created exclusively for Audrey Hepburn in 1957. When Givenchy suggested releasing it to the public, she playfully protested, calling it l'interdit, the forbidden. That name stuck. This edition keeps the name, rethinks the bottle, and lets the white florals speak louder than ever.
The white floral heart is where this fragrance earns its keep. Tuberose, jasmine, and Tunisian orange blossom create a luminous, almost confrontational bouquet. The tuberose carries an indolic quality, slightly animalic, slightly sweet. The jasmine adds a waxy, rich depth. The Tunisian orange blossom brings a hint of bitter floral that keeps the whole heart from becoming saccharine. Together, they're white florals at their most alive. The base, vanilla, patchouli, vetiver, and Ambroxan, doesn't compete with the florals. It supports them. A warm, slightly sweet foundation that lets the florals dominate without overwhelming the wearer.
The evolution
The opening is quick and bright, bergamot and pear arrive clean, almost sparkling. Within minutes, the florals take over. The tuberose announces itself loudly, jasmine joins, and the composition shifts from fresh to opulent. The drydown is where L'Interdit Edition Couture earns its reputation. The vanilla and patchouli arrive together, warming the florals without smothering them. Vetiver adds an earthy, slightly smoky finish. Ambroxan brings a subtle salt-and-skin quality that makes the drydown feel intimate, close to the skin. On most skin types, the full arc lasts four to six hours. The florals lead for the first two, the base carries the rest.
Cultural impact
L'Interdit Edition Couture is a collector's bottle, a special edition that elevates the 2018 EDP into a display piece for Givenchy enthusiasts. The limited bottle design and the intensified white floral heart make it a fragrance for those who already know the house and want something more exclusive.
