The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Ggema built its reputation on gemstone-inspired perfumery, each fragrance designed to capture the essence of a specific stone. When the brand turned its attention to moonstone, the goal was to translate that stone's cool, silvery luminosity into liquid form. Nathalie Gracia-Cetto approached the brief by building around citrus and white florals, selecting notes that would feel bright and translucent rather than heavy, ensuring the fragrance would read as glowing rather than opaque.
Nathalie Gracia-Cetto structured Lucky Moon around a clear contrast between bright and warm. The opening and heart lean into freshness and translucence, while the drydown provides the weight that makes the fragrance last. Vanilla was chosen specifically to extend the floral sweetness into the base without duplicating it, and cedarwood adds the dry backbone that keeps the vanilla from becoming cloying. The result is a fragrance that feels coherent across its entire lifespan, with no awkward transitions between its phases.
The evolution
The opening channels the coolness of moonstone through mandarin orange and basil, a pairing that produces an effect closer to crushed leaves than typical citrus sweetness. Pink pepper adds a slight tingle, suggesting moonlight's crisp edge rather than warmth. As the fragrance moves into its heart, jasmine and orange blossom soften the initial sharpness, bringing a creamy floral quality that feels like moonlight on white petals. Patchouli grounds these florals with just enough earth to keep them realistic rather than idealized. The drydown settles into amber, cedarwood, and vanilla, a warm base that contrasts with the cool opening, completing a journey from crisp luminescence to intimate warmth.
Cultural impact
Since its debut in 2023, Lucky Moon has resonated with a generation seeking modern reinterpretations of classic moon‑inspired themes. The fragrance’s blend of mandarin orange, bergamot, bitter orange, and neroli captures the optimism of post‑pandemic renewal, while its green‑herbaceous heart reflects a growing cultural emphasis on sustainability and natural ingredients. By pairing Haitian vetiver with Venezuelan tonka bean, the scent nods to global sourcing trends, encouraging consumers to appreciate diverse terroirs.
