The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Daniela Andrier created Vanille in 2020 as a direct homage to Fragonards hometown of Grasse, where the art of perfume has been practiced for generations. Rather than reaching for distant ingredients, she anchored her composition in French tradition, selecting Jasmine as the opening spark to reference the fields that once defined the region. The Vanilla focus reflects the perfumers fascination with a note that has anchored Western perfumery for centuries, yet she softened its richness with Tiare and Almond for a result that feels rooted in place and time.
Vanilla in perfumery carries weighty associations, from the nostalgic pull of gourmand compositions to its role as a base building block. Daniela Andriers choice to lead with Jasmine before the Vanilla arrives speaks to a desire for contrast, ensuring the fragrance avoids being immediately sweet. Instead, Almond and Tiare Flower amplify warmth without sugary excess, while Caramel in the drydown provides the richness that Vanilla alone might lack. This careful layering reflects a philosophy that each note serves both structural and sensory purpose, nothing for show, everything to sustain the experience.
The evolution
The opening wave of Jasmine spreads quickly, its green floral character demanding attention for roughly the first fifteen minutes of wear. As it recedes, a transition begins where the heart notes emerge organically, Vanilla lifting while Almond introduces its characteristic roundness. Tiare Flower bridges these phases, its creamy tropical quality smoothing the shift from bright Jasmine to warm Vanilla. By the third hour, Caramel and Musk appear, Caramel deepening the remaining Vanilla into something richer and moreish while Musk adds a skin-close finish that prolongs the scent well into evening. Each phase bleeds softly into the next, no sharp transitions, just a continuous warm thread.
Cultural impact
Since its 2020 debut, Vanille has attracted a following among fragrance enthusiasts who appreciate its sophisticated take on sweet, creamy notes. Wearers often note its elegant character, finding it well-suited for various occasions. The fragrance offers a nuanced approach to gourmand perfumery, balancing richness with restraint.
