The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Belle de Grasse arrived in 2020 as part of Fragonard's Les Fleurs du Parfumeur collection. Perfumer Shyamala Maisondieu composed it around violet leaf and bergamot, materials that open with a crisp, green character, then layered in mimosa absolute and orange blossom absolute, before anchoring everything in a heliotrope and musk base. The overall effect is soft and welcoming, with a gentle warmth that settles close to the skin while remaining present throughout wear. The composition balances freshness with richness, creating something that feels both vibrant and comforting.
The dominance of yellow florals, mimosa, orange blossom, lilac, is what sets this apart. These softer, creamier notes carry a honeyed quality that mimosa absolute brings naturally. Heliotrope adds that characteristic powdery softness, a delicate, comforting nuance. Together with musk, it creates a base with real presence and persistence, lingering on skin for hours without ever becoming overwhelming.
The evolution
The opening is crisp and green, violet leaf, bergamot. Brief, but clean. Within minutes the yellow florals begin their slow arrival, deepening gradually as the citrus cools. Mimosa and orange blossom emerge in sequence, followed by lilac weaving through, creating a seamless transition where the florals simply become warmer, sweeter. By hour two, the heliotrope and musk emerge, adding depth and softness. This phase extends the wear considerably, offering a lingering presence that endures through multiple hours of daily life.
