The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Farmacia SS. Annunziata, founded in 1561 in Florence, has spent centuries translating apothecary craft into wearable art. Venere, launched in 2022, draws inspiration from Botticelli's Venus emerging from the sea. The perfumer captured that moment of delicate emergence with bergamot and pink pepper creating an immediate sparkle, transitioning to a soft floral bloom of jasmine and honeysuckle as the scent develops. A peach accord brings tactile lushness, while amberwood and vanilla provide a warm, luminous foundation that feels like sunlight on skin.
The perfumer chose bergamot for its brightness, a nod to Mediterranean citrus traditions. Geranium bridges the gap between citrus and floral, adding herbal structure that keeps the opening sophisticated rather than sweet. Pink pepper provides subtle warmth without spice overload. Peach and honeysuckle create a sun-kissed middle act, capturing that liminal moment of emergence. Jasmine adds classic Italian florality, while amberwood and vanilla ground everything in warmth. White musk ensures the drydown feels clean and Intimate rather than heavy.
The evolution
The scent journey mirrors Venus rising from sea foam. Bergamot opens like sea spray, crisp and sparkling. Geranium and pink pepper add complexity, creating a dynamic first chapter. The heart unfolds like petals opening: peach arrives velvety and ripe, honeysuckle brings intoxicating sweetness, jasmine adds opulent depth. This floral-fruity middle feels sunlit and romantic. The drydown shifts to intimacy: amberwood grounds with warm woody resonance, vanilla adds creamy comfort, and white musk creates a soft, skin-close finish that lingers like a whispered secret.
Cultural impact
Since its 2022 debut, Venere has resonated with a generation seeking a blend of heritage and modernity. The fragrance draws on the artistic legacy of Botticelli’s Venus, translating visual art into scent and sparking conversations in cultural circles about the interplay of visual and olfactory expression. Its release coincided with a renewed interest in Italian artisanal perfumery, inspiring boutique works hops and academic panels that examine how contemporary fragrances can reflect historical narratives while appealing to today’s sensibilities.
