The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Daphné Bugey designed SuperGirl in 2019 around a simple premise: build a fragrance that smells like the idea of a good day, not a performance of one. The brief was floral delight, berry fantasy, pink inspiration, and Bugey delivered exactly that, without overcomplicating it. She chose to work with litchi and lime as the opening, two notes that don't demand attention but definitely announce themselves. From there, the heart unfolds naturally: peony and rose create a feminine softness, while blackcurrant and forest fruits keep everything grounded in something real. No tricks. No sleight of hand. Just a fragrance that knows what it is and commits to it fully.
The combination of litchi and lime at the top creates an interesting tension, the tropical sweetness of litchi against the sharp citrus of lime means the opening never feels one-note. You get brightness and fruitiness in the same breath. In the heart, peony brings softness while blackcurrant adds a tartness that prevents the florals from becoming syrupy. It's a careful balance: sweet enough to be inviting, structured enough to be interesting. The result is a fragrance that reads as feminine and fresh without tipping into anything too sweet or too heavy. It's the kind of composition that works because it doesn't try to do too much.
The evolution
The opening hits first, litchi's tropical sweetness tempered by lime's tartness, a burst of brightness that announces itself clearly. From there the scent begins to shift as the heart takes over gradually: rose and peony unfurl, their petals overlapping in a lush, feminine display. Blackcurrant adds a tart berry quality, while freesia brings a clean, green-floral note that keeps the heart from becoming overly sweet. Then the base arrives, musk and woody notes settling warm and close to the skin. Not a dramatic shift. More like a familiar presence that stays. The drydown clings softly, lingering in a way that feels intimate and personal. How long it lasts varies from person to person, but there's a gentle persistence to the final hours that makes reapplication feel like a welcome ritual rather than a necessity.
Cultural impact
SuperGirl occupies a specific corner of the fragrance landscape: the floral-fruity sweet spot designed for everyday wear. It's the kind of scent that works for a Tuesday morning meeting or a Saturday coffee run. The bright opening and approachable heart make an immediate impression, while the musk drydown keeps it grounded and adult without feeling heavy. The fragrance moves comfortably through different settings, from professional environments to casual outings, never demanding to be the focus of attention but content to be a pleasant constant throughout the day.
