The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
ESSNCE launched Coco 'Bout You in 2025 as part of the Originals Tropical Destination collection. The brief was simple: build the coconut fragrance the category had been circling for years, the one that doesn't smell like candy or suntan lotion but like the actual drink in your hand. The name plays with a familiar phrase, a wink at the kind of affection you might confess after a few sips of something sweet and strong. ESSNCE's catalogue includes Carashmellow and Drunk Apple Pie, and the brand has long explored edible territory, but this one commits fully to a tropical register, staking a claim on the coconut note without apology.
What's interesting here is the layering. Coconut appears twice in the pyramid, once at the top and again in the heart as coconut cream, holding the composition together from both poles. The piña colada accord sits in the middle, surrounded by tiare flower and heliotrope, two notes that give the sweetness a soft, powdery lift instead of letting it collapse into syrup. The pistachio opening adds a slightly salty, almost-nutty edge that keeps the fruit from reading as artificial. The caramel and vanilla base pulls the whole thing into a warm, edible finish without veering into burnt sugar.
The evolution
The first ten minutes are the brightest, with pineapple cutting through coconut and pistachio adding a dry, almost-saline crunch. It's fresh in a beachy way, not a shower-gel way. By the thirty-minute mark, the piña colada accord blooms: coconut cream thickens, tiare adds a sunscreen-floral softness, and the heliotrope steps in with its almond-vanilla whisper. The fruit recedes into the background. What stays is a milky, slightly powdery sweetness that clings close to skin. Around the two-hour mark, the caramel arrives, and the whole composition settles into a warm vanilla-musk cradle. The tropical edge is still there, but it's quieter now, more suggestion than shout. The drydown stretches the sweetness thin, letting the musk do the heavy lifting as the cream and florals slowly fade.
Cultural impact
Coco 'Bout You sits inside ESSNCE's Tropical Destination subline, a 2025 collection that brings the brand into vacation-coded territory. The coconut-piña colada pairing is everywhere in mainstream fragrance, and ESSNCE's version aims for the actual cocktail rather than the candy version. The juice leans on coconut cream, tiare flower, and heliotrope in the heart, notes that give the sweetness a soft, powdery lift, while the caramel and vanilla base anchors the whole composition in something warm and edible.
