The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The seventh installment in Eisenberg's Les Secrets collection. Each fragrance in the line arrives as a revelation, something kept hidden, now unveiled. Velours de Nuit translates to "velvet of the night," and the name is the brief: capture the texture of darkness, the sophistication of an evening that has already begun. The 2024 launch brought leather and rose into the same composition, tied together with vanilla and amber. Not a loud fragrance. An intimate one.
What makes this structure interesting is the tension between its opening and its heart. Leather announces itself first, assertive, tactile, while rose sneaks in underneath, softening what could be harsh. The vanilla doesn't hit immediately. It waits, arrives quiet, and stays longer than everything else. Amber and labdanum in the base give it resinous warmth without sweetness for its own sake. Sandalwood keeps the drydown grounded. The fragrance earns its evening setting by refusing to compete with the room.
The evolution
The opening hits immediately: leather, pink pepper, a brief rose appearance that vanishes before you can name it. Ten minutes in, the vanilla surfaces, not sweet, just warm, threading through the leather like a ribbon through a gift. Patchouli keeps it grounded, stops it from floating entirely into abstraction. By the third hour, the leather has softened to something almost skin-like. The drydown settles close, amber, labdanum, sandalwood, and musk holding their warmth for 6-8 hours on most skin. The next morning there's a faint trace, resinous and soft, on fabric.
Cultural impact
The Les Secrets collection positions each fragrance as a personal narrative, secrets waiting to be discovered. Secret VII Velours de Nuit fits into the woody-amber category with a twist: the leather-rose pairing is unconventional in feminine perfumery, leaning into warmth and resin rather than florals alone. Wearers describe it as the fragrance for someone who doesn't need to announce themselves, the leather announces the presence, but the drydown keeps it intimate.
