The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Exciting Oud Touch arrived in 2018 from Dumont, a house that has built a quiet name through its approach to composition. This particular scent leans into the oriental family's sweet-meets-smoky tension, using caramel and raspberry to draw you in before the darker materials take hold. The structure is deliberate: an opening built on indulgence gives way to something more grounded, with patchouli and florals softening the transition while resinous base notes anchor the whole thing in warmth. There's a sense of layering here that rewards patience. The caramel doesn't announce itself and retreat; it weaves through the composition, appearing in the top, threading through the heart, and settling into the drydown with a quieter sweetness that feels baked into the formula rather than sprayed on.
What makes this composition work is the contrast baked into its structure. The top notes are pure indulgence: caramel's warmth, orange's brightness, raspberry's tart sweetness pulling against the sugar. Then the heart pulls the floor out with a dense floral-patchouli accord, where violet's powdery edge meets jasmine's warmth and rose rounds everything off. The base is where it commits: frankincense's resinous depth, amber's warmth, vanilla's softness, and musk's skin-hugging intimacy. It reads as a layered oriental rather than a linear gourmand, which is the harder trick to pull off.
The evolution
The opening is all sugar. Caramel and orange hit together, with raspberry threading through like a tart ribbon. It's loud, almost confectionery, and might briefly read as a dessert fragrance. Don't get comfortable. The heart starts to push through fairly quickly: patchouli lands first, earthy and slightly green, then violet and rose fold in, softening everything with a powdery floral haze. The sweetness doesn't vanish, it gets buried under something denser. As the composition dries down, the base takes command. Frankincense brings dry, resinous smoke, amber adds warmth, vanilla smooths the edges, and musk pulls it all close to skin. The drydown settles into a warm, smoky, slightly sweet close that lingers for the long stretch of the wear. The sillage stays moderate throughout, projecting early before settling into a personal scent bubble. It doesn't shout from across the room.
Cultural impact
Exciting Oud Touch occupies a particular position in the current fragrance landscape. It's indulgent enough to feel like an occasion, structured enough to avoid reading as a novelty scent, and approachable enough that it doesn't demand oud expertise to appreciate. The composition appeals to wearers who want warmth and resinous depth without the heavier, more aggressive interpretations of oriental fragrances. What makes it land is the balance between sweetness and smoke. The caramel-raspberry opening delivers immediate gratification, while the frankincense and amber base keeps it from tipping into pure dessert territory.
