Qelibar landed in 2019 from Darkbeat Parfums, a niche house that had been active for some time, and this one sits in the resinous-amber territory. José M. Giraldo composed it as a unisex piece that blends warmth with depth, crossing aromatic traditions in a way that feels deliberate. The name carries an evocative quality, suggesting geography without pinning itself to a single location. Darkbeat's catalog around this release includes Manaqua and Cuero, and the house clearly isn't content to stay within one narrow family of materials. Qelibar is where that restlessness finds its amber center, a composition built on labdanum, benzoin, frankincense, and ambergris that gives the brand a resinous anchor without becoming a one-note affair.
What's interesting here is the structural choice: a fresh citrus opening (bergamot, elemi resin, lime) that doesn't pretend to stay fresh.
