The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
The dragon archetype has roots in Cigno Nero's mythology: a protective creature of treasures and causes, demanding energy for important change. Luca Maffei composed this 2020 release for those who need to accomplish something. Not ambition as metaphor, ambition as necessity. The fragrance was built to embody that energy, drawing from the symbolic weight of the dragon in the brand's narrative framework. The composition opens with an immediate sense of authority, the kind of presence that fills a room before you enter. There's a boldness here that feels both ancient and purposeful, the kind of conviction that doesn't ask for permission. As it develops, the fragrance reveals layers that unfold with patience and precision, each note asserting itself without overwhelming the whole.
The leather and labdanum sit at the heart of this composition like a conversation between two old materials. Labdanum, sticky, resinous, ancient, doesn't compete with the leather. It deepens it. Together they create something that feels worn rather than new: leather that's been used, labdanum that smells like the memory of leather. The cacao adds a dark, bitter sweetness that most compositions bury. Here it steps forward. Nutmeg and birch warm the transition without softening the impact.
The evolution
The opening announces ginger and bergamot, sharp, clean, almost medicinal cold. The bergamot doesn't sweeten this; it sharpens it. Neroli appears briefly, softening the edge just enough to let you breathe before the heart takes over. Twenty minutes in, leather arrives with purpose. Not polite suede, rawhide, slightly animalic, joined by nutmeg's warmth and birch's dry mineral edge. The cacao lurks beneath, darkening everything. By the third hour, frankincense and vetiver anchor the composition. Smoke threads through a cashmeran warmth that lingers close to skin for hours. The drydown is intimate but unmistakable, vetiver and musk holding the final conversation, the smoke refusing to fully disappear.
Cultural impact
Forza Suprema entered the niche fragrance landscape in 2020, a composition that makes its presence known without apology. The leather-frankincense pairing forms a core axis around which much of the scent revolves, creating a dialogue between warmth and resinous depth. This combination has drawn attention from those who appreciate frankincense in its more uncompromising forms, where the smoky, sacred character remains intact rather than being softened for mass appeal.
