The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Venus. The planet named for love and beauty, orbiting closer to the sun than any other. Castanez Parfums chose that name deliberately, this fragrance is the house's study in intimacy. Created by José Castanez and Cecilia Castañeda, launched in 2023 as part of a collection that spans the solar system: Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury. Venus is the fifth planet, and in this line, it gets a scent that matches its reputation. Not the brightest, not the loudest. The one people orbit.
The note structure tells you everything about intent. Seven top notes, passion fruit, guava, grapefruit, rhubarb, blackcurrant, orange, green apple, is unusual density for an opening. Most fragrances consolidate into two or three. Seven means the first minutes are a chorus, not a solo. Then the florals arrive to clean house: jasmine, lily of the valley, neroli, honeysuckle, carnation. They don't overpower. They sustain. The base, vanilla, coconut, patchouli, almond, amber, is warm without being heavy. It's the kind of composition that reads differently on different people. That variability isn't a flaw. It's the point. An intimate fragrance adapts to its wearer.
The evolution
The opening hits tart and bright. Rhubarb and green apple cut through the tropical sweetness of passion fruit and guava, a surprising sharpness that lasts maybe fifteen minutes before the florals arrive. Jasmine and neroli take over, with orange blossom adding a waxy, almost honeyed quality. Carnation slips in quietly, a hint of spice that most people miss. The drydown is where this fragrance earns its name. Amber and coconut create warmth, patchouli grounds everything, vanilla extends the longevity. On fabric, it lasts into the next day, faint, skin-close, almost nostalgic. On skin, the projection is intimate from start to finish. You won't fill a room. But you'll leave a trace.
Cultural impact
Melody of Venus launched in 2023 as a limited release of 25 bottles. Within the Castanez Parfums collection, it occupies the Venus position, the planet of love, beauty, and proximity. The brand's five-fragrance planetary system suggests deliberate world-building rather than opportunistic releases. Community reception has been polarized in small samples: some find the tropical-floral-nutty combination unusually distinctive; others note the intimate projection isn't for those who want to announce themselves. The fragrance has earned a loyal following among enthusiasts who appreciate compositions that reward close attention rather than projecting loudly.
