The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Carlos Benaïm designed this edition in 2016. Eternity for Men had been an iconic fragrance from Calvin Klein, known for its clean, sophisticated character. The 2016 Collector Edition wrapped the iconic bottle in bright green with a bold metallic finish, a nod to contemporary art's geometric language. Same fragrance inside. A different cover. The name said everything. Eternity. Not a moment, not a mood, a commitment. Benaïm worked within that framework, creating a scent that balanced green freshness with warm woods, holding true to the classic fougere structure that had made the original so enduring. The result was a fragrance that felt both timeless and present, its aromatic profile threading citrus and herbal notes through a mossy, woody foundation.
The pyramid is textbook fougere, citrus-green top, herbal-lavender heart, mossy-woody base. What makes it interesting is the Palisander Rosewood in the drydown. Rosewood in men's fragrance tends to disappear into the woodsy wash of everything around it. Here, the rosewood retains distinct character, contributing body and warmth without dissolving into the background. The result is a drydown that feels grounded and substantial. The galbanum at the opening is doing real work too. Not just fresh, actually green, almost resinous.
The evolution
The opening is all mandarin and galbanum, bright, a little sharp, like citrus peel hit with warmth. Sage arrives within minutes, cutting the sweetness down to something drier and more herbal. This is the fougere introduction, and it is brief. By the time the lavender settles in, the citrus has already stepped back. The heart is where it earns its name. Basil and geranium do not announce themselves loudly, they work in concert with the lavender to create an herbal middle that reads as clean without being soapy. Geranium adds a slight floral lift that keeps the whole thing from going too masculine in the old-fashioned way. The base anchors everything. Moss provides the classic fougere foundation, rosewood gives body, and amber adds warmth that rounds out the edges.
Cultural impact
Eternity for Men has outlasted countless trend-driven flankers. The Collector Edition 2016 continues this tradition, offering a fragrance that works without asking for attention. It holds its own in the classic masculine category, present without being demanding, modern without chasing novelty. There is something to be said for a fragrance that endures on its own terms.
