The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Amici arrived in 2021, joining Caia's growing catalogue of scents designed to bottle everyday moments rather than ceremonial ones. The brand treats fragrance as something meant to live in the ordinary rhythms of a day, the kind of composition you wear without thinking, the way a favourite playlist runs in the background. Amici fits that brief exactly. Its composition reads like a casual afternoon: uncomplicated, warm, generous. There is no single dramatic gesture here, no single note demanding attention. Instead, there is the easy abundance of fruit on a table, the kind that makes you slow down and stay a while. Pineapple, orange, and blackberry bring a juicy immediacy that feels more like a sun-warmed kitchen than a perfumery counter.
What makes Amici interesting is the tension between its opening and its base. The top layer is aggressively fruity, pineapple and orange and blackberry hitting with almost confectionary sweetness. But the base anchors that sweetness in iris, amber, musk, and sandalwood, materials known for their powdery, skin-like softness. That combination, pure fruit on top of a powdery floral-musk foundation, is less common than it sounds. The fruit notes don't crash into the base so much as they dissolve into it, trading their bright crunch for something rounder, creamier, almost suede-like in feel.
The evolution
On skin, Amici opens loud. The pineapple and orange arrive within the first minute, joined almost immediately by blackberry and a bright citrus sparkle. This opening is unapologetically fruity, the kind of scent that fills a small room and makes people ask what you're wearing before you've introduced yourself. For roughly the first 30 minutes, the sweetness dominates. Around the 45-minute mark, the heart notes settle in: tropical fruits and red berries add depth, while violet and jasmine weave in a powdery softness that wasn't visible at the start. The rose stays faint, more texture than presence. By the two-hour mark, the fruit has receded noticeably. What remains is the iris-amber-musk-sandalwood base, which carries the composition through the next 4-6 hours.
Cultural impact
Amici reads as a daytime, casual scent, the kind that belongs at brunch, on a picnic blanket, or during a Saturday errand run. Its powdery drydown sets it apart from louder fruit fragrances, giving it a gentler landing that appeals to wearers who want sweetness without the sugar rush. The composition leans bright and juicy at the opening, with pineapple and orange leading the way, before settling into a softer musk-and-iris close that feels closer to skin than to statement. It's the kind of scent that earns compliments in elevators and grocery store aisles, not grand gestures.
