The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Solace arrived in 2022 as part of Boadicea the Victorious's Perfume Bays Collection, a set created exclusively for the United Arab Emirates. Each fragrance in the line carries one of the Pan-Arab colors of the UAE flag. Solace wears the green, the color historically tied to the Fatimid dynasty and, more recently, to love, hope, and prosperity. The name reads like a quiet promise. The composition delivers something louder. Boadicea the Victorious doesn't do quiet. So Solace comforts with conviction. It smells like coming home to a place you actually want to be. There's a generosity to the way it opens, spilling peach and grapefruit across the skin with the bright snap of petitgrain threading through like sunlight through leaves.
What's interesting here is the structural contradiction. Peach, petitgrain, grapefruit, thyme, and raspberry form an opening that leans green, tart, almost herbal, more kitchen garden than perfumery counter. The fruit feels alive rather than candied, like something you might pull from a bush rather than a jar. Then the heart arrives with a full white floral: tuberose, rose, jasmine, cherry blossom, violet, spiked with clove. The florals arrive dense and creamy, almost buttery in their richness, the way tuberose tends to behave when it's given room to sprawl.
The evolution
The first ten minutes belong to the fruit. Peach lands first, syrupy but not candied, like biting into one that's been sitting in a bowl on a warm counter. Raspberry comes in right behind, sharper, almost jammy, then petitgrain drags everything sideways into something greener and more bitter. Thyme sits underneath, barely there, giving the opening a savory edge that keeps it honest. Grapefruit flickers in and out. The opening reads like a fruit salad that decided to grow up in a garden, not a bakery. Twenty minutes in, the clove arrives and announces the turn. The white florals rise together: tuberose loudest, jasmine underneath, rose threading through, violet adding a powdery shadow. Cherry blossom floats above it all like something remembered from a different decade. This is the confident middle, the part that lasts. Three hours in, the composition has thinned to its essentials. The fruit is gone. The florals have blurred into something soft but not sweet. Vanilla shows up quiet, warm, almost burnt at the edges.
Cultural impact
Solace was created as part of the Perfume Bays Collection, a line exclusive to the UAE. Each fragrance in the set carries a color from the national flag. Solace represents the green, a deliberate choice given the prominence of vetiver and herbal notes in its construction. The green flag color carries layered meaning in the region, historically tied to the Fatimid dynasty and, in modern usage, associated with love, hope, and prosperity. Solace leans into that symbolism through its composition: petitgrain and thyme give the opening a leafy, garden-fresh character, while the green facets persist throughout the wear.
