The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Assima takes its name from the Assima Mall in Kuwait City. The fragrance pays homage to this landmark destination, which has become a point of connection between the brand and Kuwait's vibrant landscape. Boadicea the Victorious draws on places and moments that carry weight, and Assima stands as the house's tribute to Kuwait: a country rooted in tradition and culture. The 2023 release brought the house's distinctive character to the Gulf, introducing a new chapter for the brand in this region and extending its reach beyond its existing markets. The fragrance captures the spirit of a place where heritage and contemporary life intersect, inviting wearers into a narrative shaped by place and memory.
The note structure is built for contrast. Warm spices, saffron, cardamom, arrive first, sharp and slightly medicinal in the way only real saffron delivers. Against that heat, raspberry adds a fruity brightness that feels almost unexpected in this company. It's not a dessert note. It's the counterpoint that makes the leather and oud less imposing. The heart holds geranium and magnolia, two florals that bring softness without femininity, green, slightly bitter, balancing the composition. Cambodian oud anchors the base alongside benzoin and amber, creating warmth that stays close and personal rather than announcing itself across the room.
The evolution
The opening arrives fast, bergamot and raspberry hitting within seconds, followed almost immediately by saffron's dry spice. Cardamom lingers at the edges, adding a subtle green warmth beneath the brighter top notes. This effusive phase gradually shifts as leather and oud begin to assert themselves, and that's when Assima changes registers. The heart is where the fragrance earns its name: leather without the barnyard rawness, oud without the aggression, both tempered by magnolia's floral cool that lifts and refines the darker elements. The drydown is where Cambodian oud does its work, resinous and slightly animalic, settling into cedarwood and sandalwood like embers that refuse to fade entirely. Longevity registers as above average for the category, and the sillage projection holds steady without ever dominating the space around you.
Cultural impact
Assima arrived in 2023 as a fragrance exclusive to Kuwait. The white bottle, distinct within the Boadicea the Victorious collection, features a rose gold shield engraved with the Kuwait skyline, a detail that grounds the scent in its namesake location. For those who already know the house, the release offers a new expression of its founding principles. For others, it serves as an introduction, inviting them to discover the brand through this geographic connection.
