The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Supreme Majesty sits inside Benigna Parfums' Royal Essence collection, a 2022 suite that included this fragrance among its releases. The perfumer behind it is Pascal Gaurin, and his approach here is grounded in a clear idea of what oud can be when it isn't performing. The brand frames the scent as a tribute to oud's place in the daily life of royalty, not the bottled fantasy of it. That distinction matters. The composition treats oud as something lived-in rather than ornamental, something with weight and ritual attached to it. On skin, the fragrance opens with a green flicker of blackcurrant bud absolute that keeps things bright before the heavier materials take hold.
What Gaurin chose to assemble here is worth examining closely. The oud sits at the structural center of the composition, and the supporting materials work in service of it rather than around it. Cypriol (nagarmotha) amplifies the earthier, smoky dimension of the oud, pushing its rooty, almost leathery facets into sharper focus. New Caledonian sandalwood, meanwhile, gives the base a creamy weight that keeps the oud from feeling sharp or medicinal. Together they create a foundation that reads like polished wood in a warm room, grounded and substantial.
The evolution
The opening carries a green, slightly catty brightness from the blackcurrant bud absolute, a note that reads almost fresh, almost casual against the heavier materials waiting beneath. Egyptian geranium pushes in alongside it, leafy and sharp, and for a moment the composition feels lighter than its billing suggests. Then the roses arrive. Turkish rose and rose absolute bloom together, dense and almost velvety, their combined weight filling the space the green top notes carved out. Jasmine sambac turns up the body heat underneath, its indolic warmth making the heart feel alive rather than decorative. The geranium doesn't leave when the roses settle in. It just moves to the edges, where its sharp, herbal character keeps everything from going soft or soapy. The oud announces itself as the composition matures, and it's not shy.
Cultural impact
Supreme Majesty positions oud at its structural center, treating it as a material to be worn and lived in rather than a novelty. The oud presence here is supported by Cypriol and New Caledonian sandalwood, which give the base its smoky, rooty, and creamy qualities, while the rose-jasmine cushion above keeps the composition from becoming inaccessible. Two roses, Turkish and absolute, work together with jasmine sambac and geranium to create a heart that has both density and lift. The result is a fragrance that commits to its materials without becoming impenetrable.
