The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Lavande in Love was launched in 2020 by Bastide Aix en Provence, a French fragrance and lifestyle brand rooted in the sun-drenched city of Aix-en-Provence. Its inspiration is Provence without the postcard: lavender fields seen in strong daylight, air carrying the mineral memory of the Mediterranean, and the feeling of aromatic herbs warming under bright sun. The name places lavender at the center, but the composition refuses to make it quiet or predictable. Lime gives the opening a clean flash, while sea salt introduces a cool, coastal tension. Rosemary, clary sage and cypress add a green, woody heart, and tonka bean brings a measured sweetness beneath the herbs.
What makes this lavender interesting is its contrast of scales. Lime makes the first impression sharp and almost crystalline, while Provençal lavender sits beneath it with an earthy, aromatic weight. Sea salt then changes the perspective, pulling the fragrance toward open air and mineral landscapes. Rosemary and clary sage bring herbal structure, with cypress adding a darker green edge. The base of tonka bean and silver birch softens the composition without turning it overtly sweet. Together, the notes create something between a sunlit garden and a walk along the coast, aromatic but never heavy.
The evolution
The opening is the most immediate gesture: lime flashes over Provençal lavender, while sea salt gives the brightness a cool, mineral handoff. As the scent settles, rosemary, clary sage and cypress replace the citrus sparkle with a more grounded herbal character. The heart feels less like a bouquet and more like wind moving through leaves, with lavender still leading but no longer standing alone. Later, tonka bean introduces a soft, warm sweetness, and silver birch adds a pale woody finish. The drydown keeps the salt-washed lavender mood intact while becoming gentler and more skinlike. It leaves a clean aromatic trace with a respected, quietly noticeable presence.
Cultural impact
Bastide's Provence register gives this scent a specific cultural setting: regional lavender without turning the landscape into a costume. It fits the brand's wider idea that fragrance belongs in daily rituals, bringing a sense of sun, herbs and coastal air into the intimate space of personal style.
