The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Russian Adam returned to the Ottoman Empire concept with new materials, building a richer heart for the composition. The name carries weight: empire implies scale and reach that doesn't stop at borders. This was the fragrance meant to expand that territory. Released in 2019 as an Extrait concentration, the blend pushes toward greater depth, adding layers of complexity that deepen the original's foundation. The oud foundation remains, but now it breathes alongside warm spices and resins that give the wearer something to discover with each wearing. What started as a single expression of Arabian perfumery now offers more room to explore, more angles from which to approach the same essential character that made the first so compelling to those who found it.
The rose absolute anchors the top of the pyramid, a thick and floral presence that announces itself immediately rather than waiting to be found. Combined with frangipani water, it creates a tropical sweetness that tempers the oud's darkness without erasing it. The cardamom and black pepper open sharp enough to announce themselves, then soften into the composition rather than fading. What matters most: the saffron attar and Indian vetiver take center stage in the heart. Both are assertive materials that demand attention.
The evolution
The cardamom hits first, clean heat, then black pepper sharpens it. Soon the rose absolute arrives, thick and floral, backed by jasmine that doesn't whisper. The oud reveals itself as the composition develops, not the opening, which is the actual surprise. Saffron and vetiver become prominent, and the wearer enters the densest part of the composition. Then the drydown arrives: amber and sandalwood slowly surface, myrrh settling beneath them. Oakmoss lingers. Long after application, warm resin and wood remain, a presence that marks the space with something memorable. The fragrance unfolds in stages, each phase offering its own character before yielding to the next, creating a wearing experience that rewards patience and attention.
Cultural impact
Ottoman Empire Part II generates strong reactions from those who encounter it, whether wearers appreciate its bold character or find it overwhelming. Russian Adam's approach emphasizes raw materials over marketing, creating something that stands apart from conventional niche perfumery. The fragrance's intensity makes it memorable, the kind of scent that leaves an impression on everyone nearby. Its unapologetic presence fills space without asking permission, making it a statement piece for those who choose to wear it.
