The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Blueberries Crave Ultraviolet arrived in 2018, marking another expression within Arcana Craves' catalog. Ultraviolet was a collaboration of sorts, originally created for American online retailer Nui Cobalt Designs before joining the Arcana fold. The name itself is the brief. Blueberries crave something beyond themselves, and that something is light at a wavelength you can't see. The composition translates that into a blueberry-forward gourmand that refuses to sit still. The berries open with a syrupy sweetness, almost candied, before the deeper bakery notes settle in underneath. Bready warmth, brown sugar, and the slightly toasted edge of cupcake batter give the fruit a grounding counterweight.
Most blueberry fragrances stop at the fruit. Ultraviolet goes further, folding in cupcake batter, fresh bread, and brown sugar to build an actual bakery underneath the berries. The violet behaves as a counterweight, a powdery, slightly cold floral that keeps the sweetness from collapsing into pure sugar. Without some kind of restraint, this could read as confection rather than composition. With it, the blueberry reads as something almost atmospheric, the color and scent of light filtered through a kitchen window. It's a composition that treats gourmand notes as architecture, not just flavor.
The evolution
The opening is immediate, almost aggressive, blueberry candy and bubblegum sweetness that announces itself before you're ready for it. Within ten minutes, the baked elements arrive, bread, brown sugar, cupcake warmth, turning the fruit into something that smells baked rather than just sweet. The violet threads through the middle phase, dusting the sugar with a cool, slightly powdery edge that softens the candied sharpness without flattening it. As the hours pass, the bakery elements recede gradually, and the blend smooths out. What comes forward is a softer blueberry-vanilla blend, the original fruit note mellowing into something rounder and more diffuse, almost cotton candy-like at the edges.
Cultural impact
Blueberries Crave Ultraviolet is part of Arcana Craves' catalog of Craves releases, perfume built around food-centric themes and direct, recognizable concept names. Its original commission for Nui Cobalt Designs gave the blend a wider initial audience than most sub-line releases, exposing the Arcana Craves style to a retail customer base outside the brand's usual direct channels. Now discontinued, the fragrance survives through the secondary market and decant circles, where it circulates among collectors and enthusiasts looking to sample past releases without committing to a full bottle purchase.
