The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Jean Denis Saisse built Villa Simone Parfum Absolu around a single conviction: jasmine deserves more attention. Released in 2019, this version pushes the house's floral-creamy signature into warmer territory. The perfumer amplified the original formula, pulling jasmine and clary sage into sharper focus. The transition unfolds gradually, with the floral heart revealing itself slowly as the scent settles into the skin. The result is a fragrance that wears its origins on the sleeve: Mediterranean warmth, concentrated into something you apply at the collarbone and forget until the drydown finds you.
The use of jasmine absolute rather than standard jasmine extracts changes everything. Absolutes carry more of the flower's natural complexity, that warm, honeyed core that basic extracts can sometimes flatten into mere sweetness. Combined with clary sage absolute, which brings an aromatic quality to the heart, the composition avoids becoming one-dimensional. The white floral character remains the focal point throughout, allowing the jasmine to express itself fully without competition.
The evolution
The opening arrives quickly, mandarin orange and lemon tree hitting bright and clean. Within twenty minutes, jasmine asserts itself. The clary sage appears in the transition, its aromatic quality threading through the floral heart. By hour three, sandalwood and musk have settled in. The patchouli arrives last, earthy and quiet. The drydown is intimate. It stays close. Not projection fragrance, skin fragrance. The kind someone notices only when they're close enough to lean in.
Cultural impact
The Parfum Absolu collection represented a shift in approach for Alex Simone, moving toward more contemplative scent experiences. The composition choices, emphasizing jasmine absolute's warmth, offered an alternative to more assertively projecting fragrances. The fragrance found its audience among those who appreciated nuanced scent experiences that unfold gradually rather than announce themselves. This positioning within the niche fragrance landscape attracted collectors seeking something distinct from mainstream offerings.
