The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Villa Simone takes its name from the elegant seaside villas that dot Monaco's coastline, a nod to the founder's childhood wandering the gardens of Monte-Carlo. In 2017, perfumer Jean-Denis Saisse was tasked with translating those sun-drenched memories into scent. He layered bright lemon blossom and bergamot to evoke the crisp morning light that filters through villa gardens, building from a clean, Riviera-inspired top to a heart that mirrors the lush floral abundance of Mediterranean coastal estates. The result is a fragrance that feels both personal and aspirational, rooted in the everyday beauty of a childhood spent in coastal luxury.
The note structure reflects a deliberate philosophy: open bright and citrus-forward to mirror the clarity of coastal light, then deepen with floral richness that speaks to Monaco's manicured gardens, and finally anchor with woody warmth and subtle spice that gives the fragrance its staying power. Coriander was chosen specifically for its ability to bridge the gap between the feminine floral heart and the warmer, slightly masculine drydown, ensuring Villa Simone feels cohesive from first spray to final fade. On skin, it pairs beautifully with light linen, sea salt, and warm stone, textures that echo the villa's terraces overlooking the Mediterranean.
The evolution
The opening unfolds with mandarin orange providing a warm, juicy sweetness that softens the sharper edges of the lemon blossom, creating an immediate impression of light and air. Bergamot bridges the citrus and floral elements with its clean, aromatic quality. As the top notes recede, cyclamen appears with a delicate, slightly watery floral character that transitions the wearer smoothly into the heart, where jasmine takes center stage with a rich, enveloping presence. Coriander keeps the heart from becoming cloying, its green-spiced character adding an intellectual edge that prevents the fragrance from feeling purely decorative. By the time the drydown arrives, the musk and sandalwood create a soft, Intimate skin-scent, and the black pepper introduces a quiet warmth that feels earned rather than forced.
Cultural impact
Since its 2017 release, Villa Simone has become a staple for those seeking a unisex scent that feels both beach‑fresh and elegantly warm, often mentioned in discussions of modern Riviera‑inspired fragrances. Its influence spread beyond niche circles, inspiring a wave of gender‑fluid releases that echo its breezy yet sophisticated profile, and it continues to be cited in academic discussions of contemporary fragrance trends.
