The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Tellement Bleu Parfum Absolu came from a single question: what if the original Tellement Bleu could be reimagined at higher concentration? Jean Denis Saisse took the original Tellement Bleu and worked with absolute concentrations, extracting the core elements of the fragrance into a more concentrated form. The Absolu collection, which includes Tellement Bleu, Encore Un Peu, and Après Vous, features these intensified interpretations of Alex Simone's work. The approach focused on distilling the original harmony down to its most essential expression, letting the materials carry the composition without additional complexity.
The choice of absolutes brings distinct qualities to the composition. Cardamom absolute offers a depth that moves beyond standard cardamom, with an eucalyptal warmth that reads as spicy and almost medicinal in its initial impression before settling into softer spice notes. Orange blossom water absolute captures the delicate character of the flower, preserving qualities often lost in more sweetened interpretations of orange blossom. The combination creates interplay between cool juniper and warm floral and dark spice notes.
The evolution
The fragrance opens with juniper, sharp and almost mentholated in its coolness. Shortly after, orange blossom water absolute emerges, softening the green edges and introducing a delicate floral quality that keeps the opening from feeling harsh. Pink pepper lifts the composition with fruity brightness, while cardamom pushes through, warm and spiced with subtle eucalyptal character. Coriander adds an aromatic lift. Galbanum threads through the middle, green and sharp, keeping the composition from becoming too soft. The spices shift in prominence throughout the wear, with cardamom and pink pepper trading moments of dominance. The drydown belongs to the woods. Patchouli anchors everything, earthy and grounding. Guaiac wood adds a smoky warmth that carries through. Orris root surfaces last, bringing a powdery violet quality that lingers at the surface.
Cultural impact
Tellement Bleu Parfum Absolu occupies a particular space in the niche landscape: aromatic enough to feel contemporary, woody enough to feel grounded, and floral enough to add surprise. The cardamom and orange blossom pairing creates a distinctive combination that draws attention from those who encounter it. The Absolu trilogy, of which this is a noted entry, makes a case that concentration and restraint can coexist in a single composition.
