The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Purple Glow landed in 2023 as part of Água de Cheiro's #Self[ie] collection, a line built around the idea of capturing a mood without overthinking it. The nose behind it is Edison Fujita, who built the composition around a single, confident idea: a fruity opening that doesn't apologize for being sweet, a violet heart that carries softness, and a patchouli base that keeps everything honest. The opening hits with a bright apple note, almost candied, the kind of sweetness that pulls you in before you've even registered what's happening. As the minutes pass, the violet unfurls, powdery and slightly cool, cushioning the fruit with a talc-like softness that feels worn-in from the first spray.
The brilliance here is in the restraint. Apple, violet, and patchouli is a tight triangle, and Fujita lets each note do its job without crowding. Apple brings the brightness and that just-bitten energy. Violet does what violet does best, powdery, slightly nostalgic, softening the edges. Patchouli grounds the whole thing, pulling the sweetness back to earth. Three ingredients, three jobs, no filler. The composition earns its freshness from keeping the pyramid honest and uncluttered.
The evolution
The first fifteen minutes are all apple, bright and almost green, the kind of crisp that wakes up a room without trying. By the half-hour mark the violet arrives, powdery and quiet, wrapping the fruit in something softer, more skin-like. An hour in, the patchouli starts to pull weight, earthy and warm, replacing the sugar with soil. The violet doesn't disappear. It melds into the patchouli, giving the base a dusky violet-tinted warmth that lingers for hours. The transition from top to heart to base feels deliberate, each phase handing off to the next without any harsh edges or sudden shifts. The violet carries a faint iris-like coolness that keeps the patchouli from reading too heavy, lending the whole composition a velvet quality as it settles. By the third hour the fruit is mostly a memory, but the violet-patchouli accord keeps humming along, warm and contemplative.
Cultural impact
Purple Glow belongs to the #Self[ie] collection, a range built around the idea of fragrance as self-portrait, something you wear to express a version of yourself rather than to perform for others. The name itself, with its bracketed lowercase 'ie,' signals a casual, internet-native sensibility, a wink to the way identity gets mediated through screens and captions. The composition matches that mood: sweet but not cloying, soft but not shy, grounded by an earthy patchouli that keeps the fruitiness from floating away. It's the kind of scent you reach for when you want to feel put-together without overthinking the getting-ready part.
