The beginning
Three numbers, three compositions, all surfacing in 2010. That's what the visible record of Acqua Novara shows right now: odo-res 47, odo-res 73, and odo-res 79, each one stripped of a conventional name and treated instead as a coded material study. The numbered convention does the work a title would normally carry, and the absence of a chosen name changes the whole orientation of the bottle. odo-res 79 sits within that framework as a piece of olfactory architecture, a dense stack of resin and smoke that arrives without a story attached, asking to be read on its own terms before anything else. The opening carries a cold, almost mineral edge: incense laced with a tart, green snap of blackcurrant, grounded by the earthy depth of patchouli just beneath.
What separates odo-res 79 from its numbered siblings is its weight. The composition leans hard into resin and smoke, stacking incense, labdanum, myrrh, and guaiac wood into a structure that feels old and deliberate. Rosewood and blackcurrant give the opening a brief flicker of brightness, but the cedar-sandalwood core makes clear this is a piece designed to settle, not sparkle. The accord profile, amber, woody, balsamic, smoky, warm spicy, reads as a single dense statement rather than a scattered list of ingredients.
The evolution
The opening moment brings cold smoke and tart fruit almost simultaneously. Incense arrives with a mineral, almost wet edge, while blackcurrant cuts through with green sharpness that keeps things from collapsing into pure darkness. Patchouli grounds the composition from below, and the rosewood underneath adds a faint sweetness, a kind of polished-wood warmth that prevents the smoke from dominating. The first impression is cool, sharp, and slightly austere, a far cry from the warm, resinous close that's coming. As the composition moves into its heart, the smoke recedes and the woods take over. Cedar and sandalwood build a warm, dense core that feels architectural in its solidity, polished and deliberate rather than soft or hazy. The blackcurrant fades but leaves a trace of its tartness behind, enough to keep the woods from feeling overly masculine or closed.

odo-res 79 carries the density and resinous weight associated with classical European perfumery.
