The beginning
Myscent arrived in 2019, a composition from the Italian house Acca Kappa. Founded in 1869, the brand has built its reputation on considered objects, from grooming tools to colognes, and Myscent reads like the perfume expression of that lineage: warm, polite, and quietly considered. The name points toward something personal, a scent tied to identity rather than trend. Acca Kappa built Myscent around the idea of a fragrance that doesn't need to announce itself to justify its presence, a bottle you reach for because it already knows you. Bergamot handles the entrance, bright but not loud, more like a window opened in a warm room than a splash of cold water.
What makes Myscent structurally interesting is the orris root sitting at the heart of the composition, not as a whisper but as the spine. Orris is one of the more demanding materials in a perfumer's palette, prized and costly, and notoriously difficult to balance. Its powdery, rooty character anchors the entire middle phase. The frankincense layered alongside it adds a smoky, almost liturgical quality, a resinous depth that transforms the iris from something merely cosmetic into something more contemplative. Underneath, the amber and vanilla refuse to let the composition stay solemn.
The evolution
Myscent doesn't rush its entrance. The first half hour is mostly bergamot doing its thing, bright but not loud, more like a window opened in a warm room than a splash of cold water. The citrus has presence without aggression, a clean lift that signals the fragrance is alive but doesn't dominate the space around you. Somewhere around the 30-minute mark the orris and frankincense arrive together, and the composition shifts character. The iris reads powdery and soft, almost cosmetic in the best sense, while the frankincense adds a faint sacred-architectural edge, like the smell of old stone warmed by candle flame. This is the phase that lasts, the one people around you actually notice. By hour four, the orris has faded into memory and the base takes over fully.
Cultural impact
Myscent occupies a particular corner of the fragrance landscape, one where iris-driven compositions meet warmer, more resinous territory. The fragrance shares DNA with other powdery iris scents like Bois d'Iris and the soft warmth of Narciso Eau de Parfum Poudrée, but Myscent takes a slightly different path by leaning into amber and benzoin for its base rather than staying purely powdery or purely sweet. The result is a composition that feels at home alongside other iris-forward fragrances while maintaining its own warmer, more grounded character.
