The Story
Why it exists.
The beginning
Amandine Galliano thought of this perfume during her travels, and it shows. The brief was simple: capture the surprise of arrival in a Middle Eastern souk, where the air shifts between bright heat and something older, darker. She built the opening around upcycled orange, cardamom, and pink pepper, a citrus that doesn't run away from itself. The bright orange peel meets the warm spice of cardamom, while pink pepper adds a delicate lift. The base anchors everything in oud, vetiver, and Siam benzoin, creating a warm, resinous foundation. It's an invitation to escape, bottled in 2024.
The upcycled orange is the quiet statement here. It stays, merging into cedar and papyrus rather than evaporating. What emerges is a woody-citrus that feels whole from first spray to final drydown, a composition where the top and base feel like they belong to the same idea, not two competing fragrances fighting for territory. The citrus doesn't fade so much as transform, becoming part of the wood rather than separate from it. It's a deliberate choice that makes the fragrance feel cohesive and intentional, as if every element was placed with purpose rather than convenience.
The evolution
The opening hits like stepping out of a cold car into noon sun, immediate, almost aggressive in its brightness. Orange and cardamom arrive together, with pink pepper CO2 adding a slight tingle at the edges. No grace period. No easing in. Then, as the fragrance develops, the frankincense surfaces, not smoke exactly, but a dry heat, like the smell of air above hot sand. The citrus doesn't vanish. It softens, becomes part of the wood rather than separate from it. The heart unfolds: geranium's green floralcy, papyrus giving that dry paper note, patchouli and Virginia cedar filling the middle with resinous warmth. The oud arrives as a deep, resinous wood. Vetiver adds an earthy, slightly smoky finish. The drydown brings warmth and intimacy, with benzoin and musk wrapping everything together.
Cultural impact
100BON's approach reflects a commitment to thoughtful ingredient selection and sustainable packaging in fragrance. The use of upcycled orange in Zeste d'Orange & Oud connects to the long tradition of citrus in perfumery. Oud, with its deep roots in Arabian perfumery traditions, brings a contrasting richness that speaks to the artistry of combining different aromatic elements. The note pyramid moves from bright citrus through warm spice and wood to deep resin, creating a scent journey that balances freshness with warmth.
